Energy Conservation

Energy conservation is everyone’s responsibility. If you live in a building that has recently been submetered, you can see directly what the impact of energy conservation is when you get your next utility bill. How can you continue to reduce your consumption and therefore the size of your bill? Here are a few tips on energy conservation that everyone can participate in.

  • Turn off computers, televisions, vcrs and dvd players when you are not using them
  • Try washing your clothes in cold water
  • Exchange conventional light bulbs for energy efficient bulbs
  • Keep the shades down in the summer to block out the heat, open them up in the winter to use the sunshine to heat a room
  • Plastic-wrap old or drafty windows in the winter
  • Only run the dishwasher when it is full (run it on light cycle)
  • Keep your home at a moderate temperature all year round (wear sweaters in winter, light clothing in summer)
